Mountain huts in the Zillertal
Huts and pastures play an important role in rural life. In the warm summer months cattle, sheep, goats and horses are kept on the alpine pastures. Herdsmen and dairymaids make traditional delicious cheese from the fresh hay milk.
The huts in the Zillertal are places of convivial gathering and represent authentic alpine life. Hikers and bikers are welcome to stop for refreshments and hearty snacks at the over 150 mountain huts in the Zillertal.
The hosts will pamper you with sweet and tasty Tirolean delicacies, such as “Kaspressknödel” (flat, fried bread dumplings filled with cheese, served in a beef broth or with salad), a typical “Marend”, which is a snack with dry-cured and smoked specialties like speck and sausages, mountain cheese and bread; or cooked desserts like a “Kaiserschmarrn” (a sweet, fluffy shredded pancake typically served with stewed plums).
In addition to providing a wonderful view and treats for the palate, the mountain huts also give interesting insights into the life in high alpine regions. Maybe the host has time for a “Hoagascht” (= the local expression for a chat) or even performs a yodel.
The “Reischwiese” – Gaspingerhof’s mountain hut in the Zillertal
Every week our guide takes our guests to our mountain hut “Reischwiese” which is one of the most romantic huts in the Zillertal. With a little luck you will find some local mushrooms – a delicious ingredient for the Tirolean brunch which we will prepare together at the mountain hut.
